Several people gathered near the ballot box at Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Kaadedhdhoo Airport around 10:00am this morning, complaining that the registered voters list for the island had not been received. According to an Elections Official working at the voting station at Kaadedhdhoo, the voters list that had been submitted to them by the Elections Commission was a list of the 137 staff members who worked at the Regional Airports.

“I was one of those who had registered to vote here at this ballot box,” the official said. “But my name isn’t on the list. Three MNDF officers working here are also not on the list. They had registered here too.”

The Elections Official said that although the staff members working at the Kaadedhdhoo Airport could cast their vote at the Airport ballot box, it was also possible for them to vote in their resident islands.

“That’s because they are registered at their island,” the Elections Official said. “But they are working at Kaadedhdhoo so their names are also on the Kaadedhdhoo list. So it is possible for them to vote twice. Several of them have gone back to their islands.”

The Elections Official also said that three hours after voting had commenced, only two votes had been cast into the ballot box.

A Haveeru reporter at the Kaadedhdhoo ballot box noted that other than a few officials from the Elections Commission, no one else was near the ballot box. Not even the observers who were supposed to oversee the voting procedure.
