Swiss Man Drowns At Fihalhohi Island Resort

Swiss national Sacha Carlo Aegertera, 33, drowned while snorkelling whilst on vacation with his wife, six-year-old son and brother-in-law at Fihalhohi Island Resort in South Malé atoll on Wednesday.

Abdul Waahad, head of guest relations at the resort, said Aegertera “went snorkeling with his wife and son. They came back and Aegertera said he would come back in twenty minutes”.

However, Aegertera did not return for more than two hours, and was reported missing by his brother-in-law.

Waahad, in charge of the search team, said, “We went straight away with 3 speed boats, a jet ski, snorkelers, and divers. We found him dead and delivered his body to the coast guard who transferred him to ADK hospital.”

Fardeen, chief operating officer at ADK hospital, said it was “a drowning case” and Aegertera was dead when he arrived at the hospital. Foul play can be ruled out, he said.
