Due to an administrative mix-up which sent a wrong electorate list to North Ari atoll Fesdhoo, voting in the island resort has been halted.

An official from the resort, which is being run under the W Maldives brand, said that the list that had been announced by the Elections Commission for the island included 115 staff members who were working at the resort. However the list they had received consisted of only 30 names.

The official said that the names included in the list were of people who had worked at the resort three years back when the resort was known as Fesdhoo Fun Island. Other than ten people on the list, all others did not even work there anymore, he said.

“The voter list that was announced by the Elections Commission earlier included 115 names,” the official said. “With the 30-name voter list that the Elections Commission sent us they also sent 30 ballot papers. Most of those people in the list are people who aren’t even working here anymore. How are we supposed to vote now?”

He said that everyone at the resort were very upset since no one had been able to vote.
