A group in Henveiru ward claimed that a group living near Sinamala flats had stolen a mobile phone and some other possessions of the Henveiru group which resulted in the fight.

Another group from Maafannu ward joined the fight but except the three who were admitted to hospital, all others involved in the fight escaped without major injuries.

"The Henveiru group had been warning us for days that they will be coming for a fight over the allegedly stolen mobile phone,\" a member of the Sinamale group told Haveeru. \"Hence, we did not want to remain sitting ducks.\"

The three groups obstructed the Police\'s efforts to break up the fight, according to witnesses.

Police yesterday said that no one was held in custody after the fight. However, a Police Media Official said that some of those involved in the fight were interrogated and that investigations are ongoing.
